The Real Cost of a Service Business Website in Canada [2026 Guide]

You open Google. You type: "how much does a website cost in Canada", and see everything from $299 to $50,000+ (and some ads for DIY tools?) You're still confused. Why do they vary? Is it worth it?
The range is technically true, here's why:
Why some websites cost $500
A basic template. Some guy making Wordpress sites somewhere in Asia since 2009 that have somehow all looked the same since. Good if you don't care to have a good site & don't mind losing a lot of business to a bad site. Probably better to either DIY at this point (if budget is an issue), or not even have a website, just focus on socials.
Why some websites cost $50,000
Enterprise. Custom everything. A team of 14 & a three-month process, weekly status decks, etc. Some businesses genuinely need this. Most service businesses absolutely do not. This is when someone like Wendy's or Pepsi needs a new site. (Even then, $50,000 might be cheap in that case.)
The vague middle
Most service businesses (consultants, contractors, clinics, etc.) need something in between. Custom enough to look credible, yes, but don't wanna pay so much. (You don't even know if it's worth it.) These businesses also need it built by someone who's done it before, not figuring it out on your dime (and time). Most web agencies will charge "good website" prices, for a website that hasn't been "good" since 2013. Dated teams, processes, designs.
What you should actually be paying for
Something that converts. Builds trust. No monthly retainer you didn't ask for, no "hosting packages" tacked on, no holding your domain hostage until you keep paying. A good website that builds your credibility, and makes you seem bigger & more serious than you are (in a good way). Even if you run ads, you waste money as the clicks go to the site, which kills the interest if the site is bad.
Where GOOSEHAUS fits
This is why we say bad design costs more than good design. Yes you save some money upfront, but you don't notice all the wasted traffic and leads who changed their mind.
We offer flat-rate packages, with no monthly contracts. You know exactly what you're getting before you commit (and your site is live in 10 days!)
